Meditation Mood Question: I need to know exactly how I can get in the mood of meditation, and how to get the "energy." Please answer my questions before I have another more non-working meditation session. Thanks and blessed be. Anami: The very fact that you are asking this question reveals a spiritual thirst. Recognize the various stages of mystical ascent and you will be at peace with yourself during the various stages of life.
A simple answer is: first create the "mood" before you sit for meditation. There are many ways of doing this. Imagine the most beautiful meditation that you have ever had and simply recreate this state on every level: body, emotions, mind, and spirit. You can begin preparing the night before by meditating before you sleep. This will fan the fire of your intentions all night long. In the morning you may also create your own ritual (a prayer, candles, incense, etc.) that helps transport you into the sacred space that everyone secretly longs for. As long as the flame for spiritual ascent burns in your heart, it is impossible to have a "dry meditation" (as some yogis term it). You may, however, go through various stages of existential angst. This will occur as long as you expect something from meditation, as some people expect chocolates and flowers from a lover. If you give without expectation of reward, then existential angst will never plague you. End desires, end suffering. Think of meditation as something you give to: as a mother selflessly gives to her child. If you want to sustain a beautiful meditation, you must focus for longer periods. This is not as much about technique as it is about spiritual thirst, but incorrect techniques can definitely slow you down. This is a big subject that I cannot explain quickly in an email. This is why I have created the meditation cds and books. For immediate results, see Chapter One in Meditation Magic: Immediate Awakening. |
