Breathe deeply in a way that keeps you wide awake and focused on love. The belly should begin the inhalation by expanding out—filling the lower lungs. Then the lower rib cage expands. Finally, your whole chest rises a little as you fill all parts of your lungs with brain-clearing oxygen. Learn to make breathing pleasurable. Absorb your mind in every small movement of each breath so that breathing is smooth—like an infinitely powerful pump that propels you to the stars. If the mind wanders, breathing may become painful and frustrating. Your breath and mental states are intimately connected, so take a long-term perspective to conscious breathing. Once you master the breath, you master life. Always feel and focus on ever gentler, subtle, and deeper levels of love. Yet breathe only as deeply as you need to remain aware of the breathing process. Always breathe as gently as possible. As the mind follows the breathing process more precisely, breathing becomes more conscious. When breathing is smooth, gentle, and continuous, watch the breath as if you are watching someone else breathe. This is the witness state. This is seeing through God’s eyes: observing without judging, pushing, or striving. You are connecting the outer circle of your personality (reflected in your breathing pattern) with the Center of the inmost circle of your being (Love). Immerse yourself in the subtleties of each breath until you become the last tiny circle around the Center. You become a very gentle, powerfully conscious breath. When the outer circle of your breath connects with the inmost Space, you touch Love and Infinite Consciousness. You will feel perfect peace and know that your search is over. Anytime you feel confused, angry, or lost in the world (the periphery), you will know that all you need to do is Breathe Love (turn within). Breathe Softly What does love feel like in your body? How beautiful is love? How gentle and loving are you to yourself? These questions are answered by how soft, conscious, and loving your breathing process is. Does it feel warm, healing, energizing, and loving; or rough, rushed, awkward, and painful? There is no limit to how healing and powerful your breath can become, and no limit to how many levels of being you can access and heal. First, you may simply feel relaxed. Thus, your breathing has affected only the physical body. If you feel light, energized, and focused, then you have awakened the kundalini to some degree. If you feel powerful mental silence, and even if you tried could not separate your mind from your heart, then you have accessed the mental body. If you feel these benefits plus a divine connection with God in all things, then you have directly accessed the Self, the Soul. Always go deeper. Always find a gentler, soft breath that pulses on a more subtle level. From here it is easy to move from breathing to witnessing (or watching) the breath. Then explore the depths of Love and Consciousness. Ultimately, only consciousness creates Consciousness. Do not strive to find God or Love. Striving is ego, an aspect of impatience. Be content to breathe gently and conscious everyday. Then you will progress as quickly as possible.
Circles Within Circles As explained above, the breath represents the outmost circle—your personality/ego. The space in the Center of the inmost circle is the Self, the Heart, the Soul. The “Space” that pervades both the inmost Center and outmost veil of ignorance is God—Everything. God consists of both “good and bad” (as does your personality), yet transcends both as pure Awareness (as does your Soul). As your mind focuses on your breathing, the circle of the breath grows smaller. Instead of the breath filling your entire lungs, you inhale less oxygen—naturally—as you contact more subtle frequencies. The outer circle of breath/ego becomes smaller and smaller—approaching the Center—until breathing is almost imperceptible. Then the mind is completely quiet. You are in the Theta (4-7 Hz) or Delta State (1-3 Hz) of brain wave activity. When you least expect—that is, when you have no expectations or egoic desires, you will merge with the Center of Love. |
